日本語の語順につられて、英文がちょっと不自然になってしまっているかも知れません。 He once dreamed of becoming an architect, but he gave up and entered a music company to become an artist. （進行形にする必要性をあまり感じない内容なので、単純な過去形でいいと思います。）

Before becoming an artist, he had been aiming to be an architect. He, however, gave up his dream and joined a music company. * 「入社する」はついつい「enter」を使いたくなりますが、通常、"join a company", "started to work at a company" などといいます。 ご参考までに。
