For most people, their first time witnessing a baby being born will be of their very own. For most older siblings, their first sight of their newborn brother or sister is usually of him or her wrapped up in a hospital blanket. この二つの文のbe動詞の後のofの意味と使い方について教えてください。よろしくお願いします。

こういう質問ははっきり言って情けないかと思うのですが、以下の英文の和訳を教えていただけますでしょうか。（特にAmid~gibberishの部分が？です） By their first birthday, most kids start linking words to meanings. These may seem small steps; after all, most 1-year-olds are surrounded by people who insist on pointing and naming every object in sight. （私の憶測） 気持ちよく、かつ耳に心地よいが理解できない話の流れの中でも （sweetとmelodicは形容詞で、gibberishは名詞ですか？あと少し意訳した〔sweeetとmelodicは＋イメージの語なのにgibberishは－イメージの気がするから） この英文は高校生にやらすのには相応しいでしょうか？（大学生レベルですか？翻訳家レベルですか？）
