ofの前後について
At the Spanish island of Majorca,Eri again made a new discovery. 上記の英文のAt the Spanish island of Majorcaは At Majorca island of Spanishにならないんですか？スペインの中にあるマジョルカ島だと語順的にAt Majorca island of Spanishになると思うんですけど、よくofの前後の単語が逆じゃない？と思う英文を見かけるのですが、何でだろうと漠然と過ごしてきたので、ここで詳しく解説してください。 よろしくお願いします。

of Spanish とすると、「スペイン語の」となってしまいます。 「スペインの」というのに of Spain とは言えます。 しかし、ここでは「スペインの性質をもった」という Spanish という形容詞で表現しています。 of 形容詞、というのはおかしく、当然名詞の前に置きます。 固有名詞的に使うなら the Majorca Island とも言えるわけですが、 ここでは同格の of を使っています。 the City of New York ＝ New York City 多くの大学が Kyoto University のように表記しているのに対して 東京大学のみ the University of Tokyo としています。 この同格の of はちょっとなじみにくいかもしれませんが、 日本語でも「京都のまち」のような言い方をします。

一行目の文は正しいです。ただし Island は大文字で。 At Majorca island of Spain となります of Spain = Spanish と考えると良いです。「スペインの」の意味です。 of Spanish は「スペイン語」になります。

前置詞の問題で二つ質問です。 <その1> The brown bears found on Kodiak Island are the largest in the world. この文で on Kodiak Island と、on を使っています。「島の中で」という感覚で in Kodiak Island だと思ったのですが、そうしてしまうと島の地中へという感じになってしまうのでしょうか。 <その2> While Dave was at the top of the Eiffel Tower, he could see several tourist boats on the Seine, the river that runs through Paris. この文では on the Seine と、on を使っています。川（の中央）をずっと下ってゆく感じで in だと思ったのですが、川に in を使ってしまうと水中に潜ってしまう感覚になってしまうのでしょうか。
