異なった人種の子供のいるたいていの外国人の現実は、 大多数の通常の日本人家族とともに地域の小学校に入学することだ。 このことを受けて、言い換えたものが something です。 that は関係代名詞で something を修飾。 （そのことは）日本でかなりの期間を過ごしてきた人たちにとってさえも 受け入れがたいであろうことだ。 前の「～に入学すること」について、 すなわち、「～受け入れがたいこと」と言い換えています。 something は「何か」と訳さず、「こと、もの」ととらえればいいです。
