まさしく、It is always better to give the exact context where the 'as' is used, as 'as' on their own has no real meaning.でしょうね asは『従位接続詞の代名詞』とでも呼ぶべき、他のほとんどの従位接続詞と置き換え可能な、便利使いされる接続詞です この文でも『～ときには』、『～ので』、『～限りは』などの訳し方が可能だと思います 結局、前後の文脈から適当な訳し方を選択していくしかないでしょう

こんにちは。 少し前に話題になったアメリカ民主党のヒラリーさんの涙のスピーチでわからない部分があるので質問をさせて下さい。 「この選挙はアメリカが直面してきた中でもとても重要なものなのです」といった後で "(So) as tired as I am, and I am, and as difficult as it is to kind of keep up what I try to do on the road......" という文章があるのですが、このなかのas tired asとas difficult asの意味がわかりません。 全体の意味としては、「私は本当疲れているし、私がやろうとすることを続けるのはとても難しいことだ」 というような感じだと思うのですが、as...asが私の知っている「同じくらい...」という意味ではないような気がしています。 このas...asはどういう意味なのか、そして普通に(So) I'm tired, and...という風に言うのとどんなニュアンスの違いが出てくるのかアドバイスを頂けるとうれしいです。 ご回答よろしくお願い致します。 ※参考URL http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4097366

こんにちは。 1. "My camera was stolen when I was asleep on the bench." 2. "I used to live near the ocean when I was child." という2つのそれぞれ独立した例文があります。また、それぞれの例文の前後にほかの文はありません。また、これらの文はasかwhenを選ばせる問題で、両方ともwhenが正解でした。 疑問なのですが、なぜwhenの代わりにasを使ってはいけないのでしょうか？ このテキストでは、whenとasをそれぞれ下記のように定義しています。 as=two things happen at the same time when=one thing happens after another 上記の定義だと、特に2つ目の例文は、「自分が子供であった」時と「海沿いに住んでいた」ことは同時進行なんだから、asの方が正しいと思わざるを得ないです。 どなたかasとwhenに強い方、疑問に答えていただけるとうれしいです。 よろしくお願いします。

as（reason/time）の勉強をしていますが、素朴な疑問がでましたので、教えてくださると助かります。 下記の文章を→のように変えることも可能ですか？ as に関係なしに文法のルールがあるのでしょうか？ それとも、asを使うときは、「してること」が先に「出来事」を後に書くというルールなどがあるのでしょうか？ <Reason> （１）As it was a public holiday, all the shops were shut. → All the shops were shut as it was a public holiday. （２）As they live near us, we see them quite often. → We see them quite often as they live neat us. （３）We watched television all evening as we had nothing better to do. → As we had nothing better to do, we watched television all evening. <Time> （４）Tim slipped as he was getting off the bus. → As Tim was getting off the bus, he slipped. （５）The thief was seen as he was climbing over the wall. → As he was climbing over the wall, the thief was seen. （６）As I sat down, the phone rang. → The phone rang as I sat down. → As the phone rang, I sat down. The stranger in London, especially if he has come, say, from Paris, finds London at first a little drab, but later on 【as】 he explores the city and begins to make friends he finds that it has its own special intimacy and charm. 上の文のasは答えを見たら【～するにつれて】と書いてありました。 しかし他の本でその使い方をするのは比較級がある時とかいてあって、上の長い英文を見ても比較級らしきものはないのになぜ【～するにつれて】と訳すのでしょうか？ 回答よろしくお願いします。
