As soon as the people looked the lion, they ran away. They fell their bundles and they ran away from him as fast as their legs could go.

As soon as they saw the lion, they wanted to run away from it (たてがみがある雄だと分かっていればfrom himとし、そうでなければメスですから、from herとなります) as fast as they could. So they left the baggages/luggages on the ground. As soon as they saw the lion, they ran (scared) without luggages so they could get out there as quickly as possible. They looked at the lion because it was the first time for them to see one. As soon as people saw the lion, they ran away. They dropped the luggages (right there) and ran as fast as they could.

>As soon as the people looked the lion, they ran away. lookedをsawに直して 人々は単にtheyだけでもいいと思います。 As soon as they saw the lion, they ran away. On seeing the lion, they ran away! At first sight of the lion, they ran away. >They fell their bundles and they ran away from him as fast as their legs could go. 2つめのtheyは不要。 They dropped their baggages and ran away from him as fast as they could. (as fast as possible) On seeing the lion, they ran as fast as they could ,dropping their baggages...

They dropped their baggages and ran as fast as possible. baggageは不加算名詞ですので、sはつきませんが。

As soon as people saw the lion, they ran away. They dropped their baggages and ran as fast as possible. は,「as ... as possible」です。 They ran as fast as possible, dropping their baggages.

Though I ran as fast as possible, I couldn't catch the bus. Though I have run as fast as possible, I couldn't catch the bus. 1. Since I ran as fast as possible, I could catch the bus. 2. Since I have run as fast as possible, I could catch the bus.
