英文理解
The problem is not so much the DNA research itself. これの意味と、not so muchの意味をお願いします。 熟語にあるnot so much A as B とは少し違うのでしょうか？ よろしくお願いします。

as B が省略されています。 というか，この後に出ているのでしょう。 問題なのは，DNA 調査そのものではない。 むしろ～の方だ。 というのが後に出ているはずです。

こんにちわ。上記の英文の意味ですが、文脈全体で判断できないのでわかりませんが、 「DNA研究自体が問題だというわけではない。」「問題はDNA研究自体にあるというわけではない。」 という感じの訳になるのではないでしょうか？ もしかすると、前後の文脈上を読めば、not so much the DNA research itself (as ～) と隠れた 文があるのかも知れません。 アルクの辞書の例題で近いものも参照しました。 ・I'm not so much involved in the sort of area of promotion or advertising. 販売促進や広告といった分野にはそれほど関わっていない。 ・It's not so much about me, it's about us. 私についてというよりも、私たちに関する問題です。 少しでも参考になれば幸いです。

not so much A as B で「AというよりむしろB」という意味ですよね？ ところで、 A man's worth lies not so much in what he has as in what he is. (人間の価値は財産よりむしろ人柄にある) という文の in の位置がなぜそこなのか、僕にはよく分かりません。 なぜ、A man's worth lies in not so much what he has as what he is. という文ではダメなんですか？
