it はこの前に出ている pollution です。 the chain of evil を it initiates ～が修飾， それが悪の連鎖を生む，という関係で，後ろからかけると， 「それが生む連鎖」 「それ（汚染）が，生命（生物）を支えるべきこの世界だけでなく，生きている組織においても 生む悪の連鎖は，大概，取り返しのつかないものである」

the chain of evil が S， is (for the most part) irreversible で，VC です。 initiates の主語は it で， (that/which) it initiates not only in the world that must support life but in living tissues までが関係代名詞節で，先行詞 the chain of evil を修飾します。 この節内で，it initiates O not only in ～ but (also) in ～ 「それは～だけでなく，～でも O を起こす」 この O がなくなって，代わりに関係代名詞の目的格。 そして，in the world の world に that must support life というさらなる関係代名詞節がかかっていて真ん中が長くなっています。

主語が抽象的で重いので 一旦切って言い直してるのでは？ 「邪悪の連鎖という物、それは 生命を育む世界だけではなく、生きた細胞組織にも影響を与えるものなのですが 殆どの場合非可逆的なものとなります」ですか？ 実際 全体が見えないんでよくわかりません。 文脈としては The Chain of Evil is irreversible だけですよね。
