Ｔhe Daily Yomiuri (January 9)に添付のＷａｓｈｉｎｇｔｏｎ　Ｐｏｓｔ，”Ｅｕｒｏｐｅａｎ　ｌｅａｄｅｒｓ’　opimism counterd by economists"に下記の英文があります。 左から３ｒｄ column, 上から６行目より、１１行目まで。”Ｔｈｅ　crisis has raised issues of European integration that will take years to work out and will test the willingness of nations to cede more nationaol powers to build the dream of a united Europe. ". この英文で”to build the dream..の英文はwill test のみに関係しているとの理解で、下記の通り、拙訳をしましたが、誤訳でないかどうか、またbetter な意訳をご教示ください。 ”ヨーロッパの金融危機は、ヨーロッパ統合の諸課題を引き起こしたが、その課題の達成には数年かかり、更に統一ヨーロッパの夢を築くために一段と大きな国家権限を譲ろうとする、諸国の意欲が試されることになる。” よろしくお願いします。

英文のご理解はご提示の訳でほとんどよろしいのではないでしょうか？これ以上どのようにしたいのかというお気持ちが分かりませんが、日本語としてより正確なものをお求めということで、僭越ながら述べさせて頂きたいと思います。 The crisis has raised issues of European integration that will take years to work out and will test the willingness of nations to cede more national powers to build the dream of a united Europe. ". ** "raise issues"＝問題提起をする ** "take years"＝"take many years"＝何年もかかる→"for years"＝"for many years"と同じ。 ** "willingness"の訳は「意欲」でほとんどよろしいかと思いますが、名詞の"will"「意志」は、"w"→"v"そして"i"→"o"と音転化し、"volition"「意志」と同義です。"Are you willing?"は「喜んでする気ある？」ではなくて「やる意志ある？」という意味です。"I'm willing."は「喜んで」ではなく「やりましょう。」に近いです。 ** "more national powers"の"more"は「何より多く」かというと、「国家権力をＥＵのために削ってきた今までの量より多く」ということはお分かりだと思います。 御訳：「ヨーロッパの金融危機は、ヨーロッパ統合の諸課題を引き起こしたが、その課題の達成には数年かかり、更に統一ヨーロッパの夢を築くために一段と大きな国家権限を譲ろうとする、諸国の意欲が試されることになる。” **「諸課題を引き起こした」→「諸問題を提起した」 **「数年」→「何年も」（長いことを意味する言い回し） **「意欲」→「意志」（やる気）[大した違いはないかもしれませんが敢えて言うとすればの話しです。] ということですが、明らかなところは「数年」のところだけでしょうね。 立派な訳でした。 念のため構造をしましましょう。 (S)＝The crisis (V)＝has raised (O)＝issues of European integration ** 先行詞"issues"←[that will take years to work out] and 先行詞"issues"←[(that) will test the willingness of nations to cede more national powers to build the dream of a united Europe] ** 先行詞はあまり離れすぎたところにはありません。身近なところを探すのが筋でしょう。"more national powers"を削る（ＥＵに譲る）意志を試すのは新たに提起された諸問題です。国家権力譲渡という具体的な行動は「危機」という大きな概念ではなく、新たに適された具体的な諸問題が現れたからですね。

会話としてはあり得ても、こんな訳は気分の良いものではありません。 主語はＴｈｅ　crisis です。したがって、「ヨーロッパ統合の諸課題を引き起こした」まではOKですが「諸国の意欲が試されることになる」という後半の部分は主語と述語が一致しません。 「危機は、諸国の意欲を試すことになる。」というのが正しい訳です。
