[日本の伝統的な年号は変わる事になっている] どちらでもいいと思います。人によって、ある決まりに従って変えられるという意味合いを出したければ受動態にすればいいと思いますが、どちらでもいいと思います。 ＞また、「succession to the」 の 「to」 は 「of」ではまずいのでしょうか。 succession to the imperial throneで皇位の継承です。 successionは、連続という意味と（遺産等の）相続、（皇位等の）敬称という意味があります。 皇位の継承は、 succession to the throneで王位継承です。 a succession of rainy daysというと連続した雨の日ということで、雨天続きという意味になります。 王位継承を表す時はsuccession to the throneと覚えておかれたらいいと思います。
