The legends hold it that deep in the catacombs the priests of the Temple were guarding several artifacts of Alexander the Great. The legends hold it の「it」は何を指しているんでしょうか?

The legends hold it that deep in the catacombs (where) the priests of the Temple were guarding several artifacts of Alexander the Great.

The entrance steps of the Capitolium were rebuilt with flanking bastions which may have supported statues of the Dioscuri, sons of Juiper, and the altar was reset on a raised platform in the centre of the temple steps, where it is shown blazing at the time of the earthquake in a relief on the lararium of L.Caecilius Iucundus. But the cult title Victrix –the Victorious–with which Sulla worshipped the goddess was not used at Pompeii, presumably because it evoked Sulla’s bloody victory over the Samnites in the wars of the late 80s. In the precinct of Apollo the gaps between the piers that connected the sanctuary with the forum were filled in and the area was reshaped as the colonnaded courtyard visible today. The three main temples–the Capitolium, the Temple of Apollo and the Temple of Venus, were all embellished in the Augustan period or shortly afterwards. The cult became very popular, to judge by the number of graffiti that allude to it, and Pompeii became well known as the city of Venus.

Before it fell into ruin Stonehenge must have had much of the grandeur of an Egyptian temple, which, despite its circu-iar shape, in some ways it resembles, and that it was temple there can be little doubt. Surrounded by a ditch and bank, it stood, as it were, upon a plinth, complete, classical in its iso-lation, and Neolithic worshippers on its perimeter would watch the procession of priests about the ambulatory, and the great trilithons. It would be not unlike watching the performance of a play, and perhaps Stonehenge is the prototype of the 'round' in which medieval miracle plays were presented, and ultimately of the ’wooden O' for which Shakespeare wrote.

The most drastic modification of an existing cult was the conversion of the temple at the north end of the forum into a Capitolium to house the three-fold cult of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, imported from the Capitoline hill in Rome. Venus had been the patron goddess of Sulla whose veterans formed the first colonists, and the official name of the colony, Colonia Veneria cornelia, connects it both with Venus and with Sulla who belonged to the gens Cornelia. t was built on a vast artificial platform and must have been intended to be conspicuous from the sea like several other famous temples of Aphrodite. In the shrine of uncertain dedication near the Greek Theatre the cella was rebuilt, and several changes were made in the precinct. The new temple demonstrated the supremacy of Rome’s most prestigious cult, and emphasized the romanitas of the new colony.

英文の和訳で困っています 和訳を教えていただきたいです よろしくお願いします!! The provenance of the inscription that records this dedication is uncertain, but it has been plausibly linked with one of the buildings on the east side of the forum, the so-called Temple of Vespasian. If this is correct, Mamia owned (or brought) the plot in question, because she, like M.Tullius, records that the temple was built not just at her own expense but on her own land. An Augustan date for the building is supported by the imagery of the reliefs on the altar which stood in front of the temple. We may, therefore, suspect that the monumentalization of the forum’s east front, with the old shops and workshops giving way to large public complexes, began in Augustran times.

A painting of the marriage of Hercules and Hebe found in the oecus of the House of the Wedding of Hercules gives a vivid impression of a festival at the Temple of Venus: the doors of the temple have been opened to reveal the cult statue standing inside, bedecked with jewellery, flanked by smaller statues of Priapus and Cupid. It was destroyed together with the temple in the earthquake of AD 62, and rebuilding had not progressed far by the time of the eruption. By contrast, the Temple of Isis had a much smaller precinct intended to serve a more intimate community of initiates, and it was hidden from public view by a high wall flanking the south side of the via del Tempio di Iside. The porticoes surrounding these, temples were large enough to accommodate many participants in the cult festivals.

The membrane allowed water to pass through it freely, but it would not allow molecules of dissolved protein to pass which ( 2 ) molecules to pass through it is known as permeable membrane. However, since the membranes used in this experiment allowed only molecules of the solvent to pass through, they are ( 3 ) as semi-permeable membranes. Two protein solutions were then made up, one at a concentration of 5g dm^-3,and the other at 10 g dm^-3. Some of the 5 g dm^-3 solution was ( 4 ) into one of the glass cylinders, and some of the 10 g dm^-3 solution into the other cylinder. The levels of the water in the beakers and the protein solutions in the glass cylinders were ( 5 ) until they were all equal. The experiment was then left for a period of twenty-four hours. After twenty-four hours, it was ( 6 ) that the levels of the water and protein solutions were considerably different from when the experiment was ( 7 ). The level of liquid in the cylinders was seen to be higher than the level of the water in the beakers. 英文の和訳で困っています 和訳を教えていただきたいです よろしくお願いします!! The detailed evolution of Pompeii’s public landscape in the Roman period is full of uncertainties. There are question-marks over the dates of several buildings; it is difficult to decide, indeed, whether some of them date to the period after the foundation of the colony or go back to Samnite times. Where the dates of buildings are known, it is often unclear what preceded them: the dearth of excavations beneath the levels of 79 prevents us, in most cases, from judging whether they were constructed on ‘’virgin’’ sites, whether they replaced domestic or commercial buildings, or whether they were substitutes for previous public edifices. The following account will, therefore, be hedged with many ‘’ifs’’, ’’buts’ ’and’ ’maybes’’. By the time of the Social War the development of the street-system was complete apart from minor adjustments, and most of the city-blocks were built up. The forum, towards the southwest corner of the city, was the hub of civic and commercial actively, and, though much of its east side seems still to have been occupied by shops and workshops rather than the public buildings which existed later, there were certainly public buildings to the south and west.
