gmailからこんなメールが…

質問

今日、いつものようにgmailを使って友達にメールをしました。
すると下のようなメールが返ってきたのですが、どういう意味なんでしょう？

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

    xxxx.xxx@xxxxx.ne.jp

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 Unknown user xxx.xx@xxxxx.ne.jp (state 17).

私はiPod touchを使ってgmailでメールをしています。
昨日までは、普通にメールできていたので何が何だかわかりません（涙）
出来れば、英語の意味から原因を解明して欲しいです。

Googleはメッセージを送信しようとしましたが、宛先ドメインに拒否されました。

＞We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error.
以下のエラーを、相手プロバイダに問い合わせてみることをお勧めします。

＞The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 Unknown user
相手サーバは、「550 Unknown user (ユーザー(メアド)が見つかりません)」と言っています。

ということですので、単純にそのアドレスには送れませんでした、というエラーです。

メールアドレスが変わったか、無くなった、あるいは単にアドレスを間違えた、という可能性があります。

また、相手が自分のアドレスを変えたが、自分の「From:」を変え忘れている、なんて可能性もあります。
そうすると、こちらのメーラーは相手のFrom: を信用して、旧アドレスに出してしまう、という動作になってしまいます。

メール以外の手段(電話・郵便等)で一度連絡を取ってみましょう。
