１ 本当に申し訳ない。他に選択肢がなかった。 （実際に）したことを (1) しなければならなかったんだ。 (2) したに違いない。 (3) しなければならない。 (4) すべきだったのに（したはずだ） ということで，(1) が正解です。 直訳するとまどろこしいですが，結局，そうするしかなかった， ということです。 ２ 親切すぎです。私にプレゼント（お土産）なんて (1) 買う必要はなかった。 (2) （ちょっと古いイギリス英語で）(1) と同じ意味。 (3) 買ってはいけません。 (4) 買わなかったに違いない。 うーん，正解はないですね。 needn't have bought として， 「買う必要なんてなかったのに（買った）」 とすべきです。 まあ，(1) が正解になっているのでしょうね。 でもこれは普通，「買う必要はなかった（から買わなかった）」 という意味合いですので，you are too kind と相容れません。

Basic Grammar in Use という問題集をやっているのですが、 Mustの単元のところでわからない問題があります。 must, mustn'tもしくは had to のいずれかを空欄にいれなさいという問題 で正解はhad to です。 問題文 I ( ) hurry or I'll be late. どうしてここで正解が had to なのか納得がいきません。 どうしてmust ではだめなんでしょうか？ これって、急がないと遅れちゃうって意味だと思ったんですが、 間違ってますでしょうか？
