英文の誤りを教えてください

普通の語順にすれば I had hardly spoken to him than he was gone. になるので、hardly を文頭に置けば、 Hardly had I spoken to him than he was gone. となるのではあるまいかと思いましたが、どうでしょうか。 なお、辞書を見ましたら、than を用いるのは 「非標準」 であると記されていました。 普通は before や when を用いるみたいです （ただし before の場合は単に過去時制だけでもよい、とも記されていました）。

過去形か過去完了形か？ He was better off than I thought him to be. 私が思ったよりも彼は暮らしが楽だった。 これは有名な英文法書(英文法解説)の例文なのですが、 私はこの文は正確には He was better off than I had thought him to be. と従節を過去完了にすべきだと思うのですが、どうでしょうか？ 有名な本の時制の一致の項目の例文なので、安易に自分で勝手に間違いだと決め付けることに躊躇があります。 何でもよいので意見をよろしくお願い致します。

But I didn't realize it at all, because I was sleeping soundly due to having drunken too much and gone to bed so late. More than half an hour later I finally woke up. I was very surprized to look at the time. I jumped out of bed. My wife was ready for my breakfast but I had no time for eating it. I ran through the dining room with putting on my suit and rushed to the station. After arriving at the station, I still kept running in a great hurry, aiming to the train. However the train I wanted to take had just left. It was the last train by which I was in time for the office. I was so depressed by thinking of how I would be condemned by my boss in the office.

"You were in more danger than perhaps anyone but I realized."について 日本語訳では "君がどんなに危険な状態にあるかを認識しておったのは、わしだけだったじゃろう。" とあるのですが、なぜこのような日本語訳になるのでしょうか？ "You were in more danger than perhaps anyone." だと "君は他の人よりもっと危険な状態にあった" となると思うんですが、そこに"but I realize"がつくとなぜ上記のような訳になるのか教えてください。 2. " I was sure, too, knowing him as I have done, that he would not rest until he kill you."について この文の" knowing him as I have done"に関してです。 日本語訳では"あやつを知るわしとしては"となっているのですが、やはり、なぜこのような意味になるのかわかりません。 "knowing him"(あやつを知っている)、as (～のように)、I have done と分けて考えてみたのですが、最後の I have doneはどう解釈すればよいのでしょうか？ 教えてください。 よろしくお願いします。
