質問

above all for those upon whose smile and wellbeing our own happiness depends ,
訳は　とりわけ、その人びとの微笑みと幸せに我々自信の幸せがかかっている人々や、
自分的な解釈だと　those whose smile and wellbeing upon which our own happiness depends でupon whichを省略してthose whose smile and wellbeing our own happiness depends だと思うのですが、何故この位置にupon があるのでしょうか？
過去の質問を見てもよくわからなかったので、教えていたただければうれしいです。

質問者さんの書き換え、惜しいところです。

関係詞節の部分を本来の語順で切り出すと、
our own happiness depends upon the smile and wellbeing of those
という感じになり、関係詞化だけをすると、
our own happiness depends upon whose smile and wellbeing

ここで、関係詞のブロックを、前に持っていかないといけない訳ですが、
前置詞upon が前についています。こういう場合は、

(1) 前置詞ごと前に持っていくのが、ずっと昔からある本則、
(2) でも、今は関係詞部分だけ前に持っていって、前置詞は後に残す方が、よく使われる。

で、この文では、(1)を採用して、
upon whose smile and wellbeing our own happiness depends
になっている、(2)を採用してたとすれば、
whose smile and wellbeing our own happiness depends upon
となって、もうちょっとわかりやすかったかもしれません。

オマケですが、先行詞がものやことのときの所有格に、whose を使うのも、
上で言うと、(2)のような用法で、(1)のようにやるなら、of which。

古めの文章や、形式ばった表現では、(1)のような表現もでてきますし、
詳しめの文法の参考書だと、欄外や小さな字かもしれませんが、説明は
あるはずですから、あれば、チェックしてみてください。

私の理解した範囲で説明してみます。

above all は、この文の構造に直接は関係しないので外してしまうと、

　for those upon whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends

という文になります。

for those の those は、たとえば people が置き換えられたもの。
whose smile and well-being = the people's smile and well-being

問題は upon ですが、

　for those (upon whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends)

those を the people に置き換えると、

　for the people (upon whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends)

( ) の中を取り出すと、

　upon whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends

で、語順を変えると、

　whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends upon

なので、その upon が文頭に出たと見ることができます。つまり、

　for the people (whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends upon)

という文の upon が、( ) 内の whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends upon という部分の頭に移動したわけです。
