  • what it said was のニュアンス

Japan has already lodged a strong protest over what it said was an "escalation" by China.

Senior Spending to Give Japan a Lift According to a JTB survey, more of those born between 1946 and 1950 said they would spend more time and money on hobbies than said they would refrain from being extravagant. . . .than they said they would refrain from. . .

http://www.daily.co.jp/gossip/2008/04/29/0000988571.shtml しかし、英語では、 http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5i9IHRFrFNS8MWEq6WxNHCzNxba_g the official Xinhua news agency said preliminary investigations found human error was to blame, without elaborating.

太陽暦に基づくもので一年のうちで最も寒い日(the coldest day of the year according to the solar calendar)という説明でした。 外国の人に「大寒」の説明をするときに「太陽暦に基づくもので一年のうちで最も寒い日(the coldest day of the year according to the solar calendar)」という説明は妥当なのでしょうか?

But early Wednesday a senior U.S. defense official said "there is not as much to" the Venezuelan buildup as has been reported. (1)as much toのtoについて 必要なのでしょうか?as much the Venezuelan … また後半のas has beenのhas beenも不必要に思えます。。。 there is not as much the Venezuelan buildup as reported.

Authorities displayed what they said were four handcuffed men arrested before they carry out a plan to make sarin, mustard and nerve gases. what they said were four handcuffed men arrested before ~ の部分が気になっており、この関係代名詞whatってどこに入るんでしょう。 They said --- were four handcuffed men arrested before ~ かと思ったんですが、what って複数形扱いになることあるんでしょうか?
