almost as unhappy asはどう訳しますか？ No one can explain why E were so bad. The team are almost as unhappy as the French!! なんでイングランドがあんなにダメか誰にも説明できない。 あのチームはとても不運？？ お願いします

横からすみません。＃１さんがお書きになっているように、フランスは「不幸（幸せではない）」のであって、フランス並みに“酷い”というのとはちょっと違います。 W杯のお話ですよね？ フランスは今回、1次リーグ敗退という、非常にショッキングな結果に終わったので、“不幸せ度”が非常に高いわけです。一方で、イングランドは毎度毎度、有望視されてきたにもかかわらず、“誰にも説明できない”結果をもたらしただけに、イングランドのチームの“悲しみの度合い”が、フランスのチームの悲しみの度合いにほぼ匹敵する、というわけです。たぶん、日本が負けても、こうは言われないでしょう^^;;

ご存知マイケルジャクソンのWe are the World の歌詞に、And the world will be together as one. というのがあります。また、ジョンレノンのイマジンにも、And the world will be as one. というのがあります。 このas one とは、「一体となる」という意味と思われるのですが、間に何かが省略されているのでしょうか。（as if it were one）それとも違った解釈をすべきなのでしょうか。

asのこの構文について質問させてください。 例1 The approaches accept people as theｙ are. 例2 The conflict is one between oneself as one is and oneself as one will be, or between oneself as one was and oneself as one is. 例3 Conditions as they existed only a little over a century ago lent credence to this feeling. 複数の辞書で調べましたが、該当項目の説明はありませんでした。 そして、テーマ別英文読解教室のp264に該当項目の説明が見つけられたのですが 「例１ as they areは直前の名詞にかかっている。この文はThe approaches accept people. 中野幾雄著「技術英語攻略法」 （株）工業調査会 発行 のp91に次の英作文例があります。 和文： 吸入パイプには，それを取り外したと同じ位置にふたたび取り付けられるように，それをエンジンから取り外すときにしるしをつける。 訳例： Mark the intake pipes as they are removed from the engine so that they may be reassembled in the same location from which they were removed. 私の訳 The suction pipes must be marked when they are removed from the engine so that they can be reassembled back to same location as where they were removed. 質問： 訳例では「それを取り外したと同じ位置に～」を“the same location from which they were removed”と訳しだされています。 何故asは使用されていないのでしょうか？ (1) 訳例を日本語に直すと「それらが外された同じ場所」になると思います。 例題の和文では，「それを取り外したと同じ位置」・・・もう少し正確に読み取ると「それらを取り外した位置と同じ位置に再び取り付けられるように」であると思います。 それであれば私の英訳の方が正しいと思うのですが，私の理解では間違いでしょうか？ また私の訳への批評を頂けましたら幸甚です。 (2) また著者はこの例文のように「～外す時に」の表現が，文中に挿入の形になる時はwhenよりも，asの方が好ましいと薦められています。 私が今まで読んだ英文では特にwhenに続く副詞節が文中に存在していることには違和感はなかったのですが，その点ではどうでしょうか？ やはりこの位置ではas を使用するのが一般的でしょうか？ 宜しくご教示お願い致します。
