和訳がわかりません

・I am their fear of war, of the battles, rage and pain that even they are victim to. victim to ~ で「~の犠牲になる」というのはわかったのですが、~の部分はどこになるのでしょうか。 ・Father abandoned child, wife husband, one brother another; for this illness seemed to strike through the breath and sight. セミコロン以降がよくわかりません。「見渡す限りを一息で襲ったように見える病によって」となるのでしょうか。

~の部分はどこになるのでしょうか : war, the battles, rage and pain 「見渡す限りを一息で襲ったように見える病によって」となるのでしょうか。 :この病が息や一瞥することでも罹患する と言うことだと思います・

下の例文の前半についてですが、接続詞も無く名詞が並んでいるのは、なるほどそういう意味なのですね。 forは自分は単にbecauseと同じ用法だと思ったのですが、"for this illness (that) seemed to..."だと判断したということですね。 それによって「貫くように思える病のために」となるか「貫くように思えたので」となるかの違いはあると思います。 「呼吸や視覚を通じて病が伝染していくように思えた為、父は子を、妻は夫を、兄は弟を、見捨てた。」 もっと日本語的に意訳すると、 「呼吸や視覚を通じて病が移ることを懸念した父親は我が子を、妻は夫を、兄は弟を見捨てた。」 ・・・GX9900さんの最後の訳とほぼ同じですが、参考までに。

"the battles, rage and pain"ではないでしょうか。 "of war, of the battles, rage and pain" とofを言い直しているので、2つめのof以下でwarを説明してるのではないかと思いました。 forは接続詞「~ので」のように思えます。thisの前置詞だとするとthisが何を表すのかがわからない(child以下を指すならthemのはず)ですし、"this illness"の前置詞だとすると、seemedの主語が無くなりますので。 「主は、この病が生命と現状を貫くように思えたが為に、子、夫婦、兄弟とその兄弟を見捨てた。」 "the breath and sight"は宗教的な適切な意味でもあるのでしょうか・・ちょっとわかりませんでした。
