.......I hope it doesn't before I get home.
NHKラジオ英会話講座より It looks like it's clouding over. I hope it's not going to rain. Or at least I hope it doesn't before I get home. (質問) I hope it doesn't before I get home.でお尋ねします。 doesn'tの後ろに動詞がありません。rainが省略されていますか?こういうことも有りですか?それとも誤った判断をしていますか?参考になるご意見でもかまいませんので、宜しくお願いいたします。 以上

>rainが省略されていますか? >こういうことも有りですか? こういうことは、よくあります。 正確には、I hope it doesn't start to rain before I get home. でしょうが。 日本語でも英語でも、言わなくてもわかりきったことは、しばしば省略されます。 難しく考えないようにしましょう。

貴方の英語力であれば文法書をそのまま抜粋した方がよいでしょう。 Ellipsis - after auxiliary verbs (省略―助動詞の後) We can avoid repetition by using an auxiliary verb instead of a complete verb phrase, if the meaning is clear. The auxiliary verb usually has a ‘strong’ pronunciation, and contractions are not normally used except in negatives. - ‘Get up.’ ‘I am.’ (= I am getting up.) (NOT - I’m) - He said he’d write, but he hasn’t. (=.. hasn’t written) - I’ll come and see you when I can. (= .. can come and see you) Do can be used before ellipsis if there is no other auxiliary to repeat. - They hardly ever give a party, but when they do, they do. - He said he would arrive before seven, and he did.

- unless it rains はas long as it doesn't rain と同じか
Unless it rains tomorrow, I'll go on a picnic. の意味は、--ピクニックに行くことになるための唯一の条件は雨が降らないことである。--だと思います。 As long as it doesn't rain, I'll go on a picnic. も全く同じ意味になると思うのですが、どうなのでしょうか。 つまり、Unless it rains tomorrow, I'll go on a picnic. と As long as it doesn't rain, I'll go on a picnic. が全く同じ内容のものなのかということを知りたいのですが、どなたかよろしくお願いします。

- It doesn't often rain
まとめて質問させていただきます。 (1)I don't like her so much. 「好きじゃない」× 「so much」で「とても好きじゃない」=「大嫌い」にならないかと考えてしまうのですが、そうならない理由を説明してもらえませんか? (2)It doesn't often rain here. こちらも「たびたび降る」の否定で、「ほとんど降らない」にならない理由を説明してもらえませんか? (3)nice of (to do) で「〈…するとは〉〔人は〕親切で」という意味ですが、 That's very nice of you.(ご親切にどうもありがとう) のyouの後には、前の会話の「to do」が省略されているということですか? (4)Are you writing a letter? - Yes, I'm writing 「to」 her. toじゃなくforだと(意味、印象など)ネイティブにどのように伝わりますか? (5)She is going on holiday next month. She's going 「away」 on 5th and coming back on 24th. awayじゃなくoutだと(意味、印象など)ネイティブにどのように伝わりますか? よろしくお願いします。

NHKテレビ英会話講座より。接続詞・・・ It won't be long before you get well. すぐに良くなられるでしょう。 (質問) [before]は「~する前に」ですよね。私が直訳すると「あなたが良くなる前に長くはないでしょう。」何か変です。捕らえ方が間違っています。何故だか教えていただけませんか? 以上

It won't be long before~ (間もなく~するだろう) がありますが、 「間もなく久美は帰宅するだろう。」 問題集の解答英文をみると It will be not long before Kumi comes home. となってました。 It won't be long before~と It will be not long before~は won't=will not 何が違うんですょうか。 問題集が間違ってるってことはありえますか?? 使い分けを知りたいです。 お願いします。

- I don't care と It doesn't matter to me
これは日本語を習っている人(男性)と、英語を話し始めた私の間の会話です。 ---僕が随分ふけて見られる理由の一つに、だんだん薄くなってきてるのがある。 この年ではげ始めてるんだ。お父さんもはげてる。--- という話をしていました。 私は I wish you won't go bald.と言った後、 It doesn't matter to me. So don't worry about that. と言いました。そして I don't care if you go bald someday. と言えばよかったと思いました。 It doesn't matter to me.には「私には関係ないわよ、アンタのガールフレンドじゃないんだから」 というような雰囲気があるのでしょうか。 そうだとしたら失礼だったかなと思います。
