某TOEFL対策問題集からの質問です。御教授よろしくお願い致します。
1.
There should be plenty of aprtments freeing up after graduation.
freeing up after graduationとはどういう意味でしょうか？
2.
What do you think of the assignment we just got in Dr. Bennet's class?
A twenty-five-page paper in two weeks - there goes my social life.
there goes my social lifeですが、解答を見るとThe assignment will be time-consuming. とありますが、どうしてでしょうか？
3.
Bill has tried so hard to win a race since he first joined the track team, but it's two years later and he still hasn't.
but it's two years later and he still hasn'tとはどういう意味でしょうか？

1. free up = free = [make free, make available]　アパートが空くという意味です。free は形容詞で覚えますが動詞でも使います。
2. 宿題が多ければ time-consuming なのは当然で、むしろ there goes my social life の意味が課題ですが、これは社会に生きていくにはやらねばならぬとため息をつきながら言う「決まり文句」です。
3. it's two years later: 練習開始後２年経つ [later = after that time]、he still hasn't (win a race): はまだレースに勝っていない

free upに関しては英英辞典を先にひいてみるべきかとは
思います。そこに書いてありますよ？to make
something availableと。もしも、辞書がなかったとしても、
should be plenty of apartmentsとafter graduationの2つから
生徒が卒業したあと、apartmentsはどうなるかを考えれば、
free upは推定できます。ただ、freed upではないのかな？と
思いますが。。。

2つめですが、要はassignmentの量が膨大で、それが
自分の生活全てになってしまうという文章なので、
time-consuming＝時間がかかる、という解釈が成り立ちます。

3つめに関してですが、彼はtrack teamに入ってから
ずっと練習に励んでいる、という文章があり、そこで
反転が入っているので、普通に考えて2年経ったが、
he still hasn't won a raceって感じだと思います。
ただ、これもhe hasn't yetが正しいかと。まぁなんにしろ
省略は前の文章を見てもらえれば、いいかと思います。
