Ken was surprised when he met Bob. = Ken was surprised ( ) ( ) Bob. 上記が 問題です。 答えはありません。(紛失しました) 僕は 中３です。 困ったことに 何を理解してないと この問題を解けないことになっているのか 見当が付いてないです。 Ken was surprised when he met Bob. 「(訳) ケンがボブに会ったとき、ケンは驚いた。」 Ken was surprised ( to ) ( meet ) Bob. …は、「(訳) ケンは ボブに会ったことを 驚いた。」なので、 コレは きっと違う。 Ken was surprised ( ～している時 ) ( meeting ) Bob. …「(訳)ボブと会っているとき、 ケンは 驚いた。」 うまくない。 どう解けばいいか 教えてください。 お願いします。

中学生だったら、be surprised at----で「----に驚く」という熟語を習うと思う。 だから、Ken was surprised ( at ) ( meeting ) Bob. を模範解答とするのではないですかね。

習ったことの中に be glad to (do)～ be happy to (do)～ be sad to (do)～ be surprised to (do)ー ～して、うれしい。（or かなしい。 おどろいた。） 感情を表す形容詞を使った 文例作り が ありました。 コレを使って解答するのだと ようやく 見当が付きました。

Ken was surprised (when) (meeting) Bob. でもいけそうです。 でもwhen以下は”文”になってないとダメって教わったような・・・ でも実際は使われているみたいですけどね。

「on」…～の時に。 英和辞典で見つけましたが、まだ習っていません。 「be surprised on 」でも「on ～ing」でも 調べられませんでした。 たぶん習ってないので、コレは きっと ちがうと 思います。

to不定詞を 「～すること」とか 「～するために」とか訳してみて うまくいかないときは、 「～して、…だった」と訳してみるようにする ということかな…。 と、今、僕は、 「この問題のように わからなくなったときは、 そうやって 訳してみると うまくいくようだったら それを解答にする。」 と、考えています。 （本当に そう考えていいのかな？） 英語は 難しいです。
