英訳「year in, year out」ってどんなニュアンス？
MADELINEの英語絵本を読んでいます。 内容は－－－－－－－ MADELINEの住む館の隣に越してきたいたずらっこの男の子。 春にはこんないたずらをして 夏にはこんないたずらをして 秋にはとっても高い凧をあげました －－－－－－－ここで、 Year in,year out, he was polite. He was sure and quick on ice. と続くのですが、この部分のニュアンスが良く分かりません 1.Year in,year out 日本人的イメージだと、正月(in)/年末(out)って感じですが、 秋のあと次の冬まで丸一年過ぎてるとはとても思えず・・ 何からみてinとoutなんでしょう。万聖節にin、outするということでしょうか。 2.He was sure 正しい子供になったということ？ quick on iceは絵から見て、上手にスケートを出来ることだということは分かりましたが。。。 何故sureの次にandでスケートが上手が続くんでしょう？ いいこになって、スポーツも上手になってっていうニュアンスでしょうか？

おはようございます。 １はもういいでしょうか。「年は来たり、年は去り」＝年毎にと言ったところでしょう。 ２は、sureもquickも氷の上での彼の状態を表わしています。確実で素早くなった、わけですね。 この文体は、詩文とは言いませんが、入念に言葉を選んだそれなりに読みやすい構成になっていると感じます。

こんばんわ。いつもお世話になっています。 タイトル通りなのですがoutのニュアンスについて教えていただけませんでしょうか？ 私の中でout＝外へ何かしら働きかける という感じのニュアンスを持ってます。例えば I went out to eat something. などのoutの使い方は外へという感じで大丈夫だと思ってます。 でも例えばwork outやcheck outなどのoutってこの外へっていう感じとは何か違うと思うのですが。（他にも本とか読んでいてたくさんoutを用いててイマイチそのニュアンスが分からない動詞があったように思うのですが、今はこれだけしか思いつきません～ ><） work outですと I worked out my problems. He was working out for the final game. 等など、work outにはたくさん意味があると思うのですが、どれも外へという感じでは何かしっくりこないのですが… check outのoutなんて別になくてもいいんじゃないかとも思ってしまいますし… でも「調べる」とか「チェックする」という時、絶対といっていいほどcheck OUTとoutが付くと気がします。きっとoutで何らかのニュアンスを出そうとしていると思うのですが…よく分かりません。 すごく細かくてややこしい質問で申し訳ないのですが、outが出てくると何となく意味がとりにくいことが多いのでどうしてもその辺をすっきりさせたいと思いまして、今回思い切って質問させていただくことにしました。もし質問の意味が伝わりにくいようでしたらそうおっしゃってください。 ぜひともよろしくお願いいたします。
