the noisy wheel gets the oil. the nail that sticks up gets beaten down.

There is another difference that visitors often notice in American schools. There is less importance given to the learning of facts than is usual in the school systems of many other countries. Instead, Americans try to teach their children to think for themselves,to ask questions, to explore, and to develop their own intellectual and creative abilities. Students spend much time learning how to use resource materials, libraries, statistics, and computers. Computers are used in many classrooms, frequently stating in kindergarten. The American system of education is based on the idea that if children are taught to reason well and to research well, they will be able to find whatever facts they need throughout the rest of their lives. This is America's answer to the question that thoughtful parents around the world are asking the world are asking themselves in this fast-paced time: "How can one prepare today's child for a tomorrow that one can neither predict nor understand?"

Throughout a country, children arrive at school at approximately the same time, take assigned seats, are taught by an adults, use similar textbooks, do homework, take exams, and so on. The slices of reality that are to be learned, whether they are an alphabet or an understanding of the working of government, have usually been limited by the boundaries of the subject being taught. For example, high school student know that there not likely to find out in their classes the truth about political problem in their communities or what the newest filmmakers are experimenting with. There are definite conditions surrounding the formalized process of schooling.

I think most people believe that the greatest countries are those that have beaten in battle the greatest number of other countries and ruled over them as conquerors.

Modern life is convenient, but it has also created problems in many ways. One ploblem we often hear about is that children are becoming less healthy because they watch too much television. It is common sense that children who are watching television are not doing other activities such as playing outside. This means that children may get to fat or not have much strength or energy. However, there are other serious effects on children besides physical effects. Children who watch a lot of television can usually understand the same number of words as other children. However, when they speak, they often cannot explain themselves very fluently. Some scientists think that this is because babies need to get information by listening, using their left brain. But television is mainly visual and makes us use the right brain.this is perhaps the reason for poor language skills later.

American mothers, warning their children to eat what they were supposed to eat, would order the children to do so or tell them that they ought to eat it because it was good for them. Japanese mothers would ask their children a question, such as "How do you think it makes the man who grew these vegetables for you to eat feel when you reject them?"Thus very early age American children are told what to do. while Japanese chiledren are encouraged not only to consider other persons'feelings but also to control themselves as a result of their own considerations.

Like most Japanese junior high school students, you come to school every day and go home after school. These are activities that are natural for you. But many children in other countries cannot go to school. They cannot spend time at their homes. These children may live in countries at war,and they suffer. They are treated unfairly, and they suffer. Because and homes behind. These children are refugees.
