いつもお世話になっています。 以下の文についてお教え頂けないでしょうか。 We are going to look at a basic point this week that many people have told me they have seen on test: (1)that の先行詞はa basic point であっていますでしょうか？ (2)meとtheyの間はthatの省略でしょうか？ (3)もしそうでしたらこのthatの先行詞もa basic point なのでしょうか？ このような文法をとるケースは見たことないのよくわからないです。 基本的なことで恐縮でございますが、どうぞ宜しくお願い申し上げます。

- この2つの文を関係詞を使って一つでまとめたいのですが
・You can see from here the roof of a black building. ・What is that building? この二つの文を関係詞を用いて一文にまとめたいのですが、疑問文にするにあたり躓いています。 わからないので、根拠もなくなんとなく3通り考えてみたものの 1. What is that black building whose roof of black you can see from here? →whose roof of black (which) you can see from here って事で有リ？ 2. What is that black building of which roof you can see from here? →which roofじゃ、「どの屋根」の意味になるから違うだろうな… 3. What is that black building the roof of which you can see from here? →じゃあ roof をof which の前に出したらどうだろう でも What is that black building で文章が出来上がってるので、この後に続く the roof of which～がどうも納得いかない いや、この the roof of which～は building を修飾しているから有リかもしれない とあやふやなまま試行錯誤しています。 考えた3つの文章の中に答えがあるかないかもわかりません。 この二つの文を一つにまとめる手順がわかる方、ご教示願えませんでしょうか。 宜しくお願い致します。

(1) who (2) whose 正解(3) of which (4) which (3)が正解ですが、 of which ってのは roof の事ですよね？ (4)のwhichだと思うんですが、なんでofがついているのでしょうか？ また、なんであえてこのような複雑な文ができるのでしょうか？ The building the roof of red is the post office. でいいじゃん。と思います。まぁ問題なのでこのようにしているのかも？ と思いましたが、実際このような文が出てくる場面ってあるのでしょうか？ ３）. Who is there ( ) knows that? (1) which (2) as 正解(3) but (4) who (3)が正解ですが、 これはさっぱりわかりません。thereを先行詞にとって、knowsの 主語になるから(1)whichにしてしまいましたが、意味がさっぱりです。 whichだったら、「そこで、あれを知っているのは誰？」みたいな訳かなと思ったのですが。。。

Ask him what he wants to be when he grows up. の what は、疑問詞にも関係詞にも訳せます。 しかし、 There is much truth in what they say. は、関係詞のように訳さないといけません。 それでは、必ず疑問詞として訳さないといけないwhat はあるのでしょうか？ あれば、文を教えてください。
