英文で A person's duty depended on which caste he or she belonged to. という英文が出てきたのですが、 A person's duty が主語で depended onが動詞で which caste he or she belonged to. が目的語だと思うのですが、 目的語の部分の訳は、 彼、彼女が所属しているカースト制 でいいのでしょうか？このwhichは、 I gave him what money I had. のように what ＝moneyと考えて訳すのでしょうか？ どうかよろしくお願いします。

確かに関係詞の中に「関係形容詞」と呼ばれるものもありますが、関係詞の場合、先行詞がありません。 これは「疑問詞」です。 1. Which book do you like to read? 2. Which way shall we go? などと同じです。 この疑問詞に導かれる名詞節が、"depended on"の目的語となり、(1)語順が変わり、(2)時制の一致が起こります。つまり、間接疑問文です。 従って、 "which caste he or she belonged to"は 「その人がどのカーストに属しているか」 という意味です。

あ、まちがえました。 he or she ではなく、どのカースト なので、何かを例えているのではありません。

He always gave what money he had to her. 2つの英文は別々にネット上で見つけたものです。 このwhatの用法（文法解説）はどのようにしたら適切でしょうか。 what money he had （持っていたお金すべて) 関係代名詞 what は what ＝ the thing(s) which のように説明されますが the thing which he hadと単純な書き換えができず、これとは違うようです。上の2文のwhatは何なのでしょうか？関係代名詞ではないのでしょうか？ 他人に説明するわけではないのですが、手元の文法テキストに載っていない書き方であるため、自分の中でこの英文の理解をどうしたら良いか、理解の助けにご協力ください。

The person whom we thought was guilty proved to be innocent この英文の動詞がどれなのかよくわかりません thought と was はどちらも動詞なので thoughtの目的格がThe person で was guilty proved が受動態の形なのでしょうか？？ 訳は 私たちが有罪だと考えていたその人は 無実だった でいいのでしょうか？ そうすると僕が解釈した英文法と違うようなきがするのですが・・・ぜひご教授お願いします！
