訳を見てください
英文の本を読んでいて、日本語訳はこれでよいのか教えてください。 Scotland is a large country. As soon as the visitor crosses from England into Scotland, he or she enters a large area of beautiful hills. Then the visitor reaches the centre of Scotland called the Central Lowlands. This is a largely flat area and is where nine out of ten Scots live. スコットランドは大きい国です。スコットランドの中にイングランドから訪問者が来るとすぐに美しい谷から大きい地域に男でも女でも行く。訪問者は中央の低地地方と呼ばれるスコットランドの中央に着く。これは１０人のスコットランド人のうち９人が大きい平らな地域に住んでいるから。 これでよろしいでしょうか。お願いします。

「スコットランドは大きな国だ。イングランドからスコットランドへ国境を越えるとすぐ、訪問者は美しい丘の連なる広大な地帯へと入ってゆく。さらにこの大地帯を越えて行くと中央低地と呼ばれるスコットランドの中心部にたどり着く。この地域はその大部分が平坦な土地で、スコットランド人の９割がここに住んでいる。」 ・crosses from England into Scotland crossは、「交差する、渡る、横切る」といった意味ですから、ここは、イングランドからスコットランドへ「国境を越える」という意味に訳しました。 ・enterは、「（ある場所の中に）入る、入場する、（～に）参加する」といった意味なので、ここでは「国境を越えるともうそこは美しい丘の連なる広大な地域である」といったかんじなのかと思います。超えたとたん、もう入場しているということでしょうか。 ・Then 広大な地域を越えてさらに先に進んでいくと、という意味なので、言葉を補って意訳しました。 ・This is a largely flat area largelyというのは「大部分は」「主として」といった意味なので、flatを修飾し、a largely flat areaは「大部分が平坦である地域」「大半が平らかな土地」といった意味ではないかと思います。This area is largely flat, so nine out of ten Scots live in this area.ということでしょう。（最後のin this area、言い換えるなら here かthereか判らなくなりました ）

こんにちは=^.^= こういうときは、主語をボカすと、グッドな日本語になります。 『スコットランドはとても大きな国です。 イングランドを越えてスコットランドに入ると、まず大きな美しい丘が続く地域に入ります。 それからセントラル・ロウランズという、スコットランドの中心地に入ります。 ここはとても広い平坦な地域で、スコットランド人の９０％がここに住んでいるのです。』

まず、『he or she』は男とか女とかは関係ありません。慣用的に使うだけですので、単にvistorを指していますから、『観光客』とした方が日本語的に良いでしょう。 また、最後の一文は低地の説明をしているだけですので、理由とかではありません。「そこはスコットランド人の１０人中９人が住む広大な平野です」とすると良いでしょう。
