少し長いですが問題は以下の通りです。 Emily is creating matchstick patterns using a series of matches。(画像の通り） The table below gives the pattern number and the number of matches she has used for each pattern.(画像の通り） 1) Find the rule that gives the number of matches, M, in terms of the pattern number, n. 答え）M = 5 n + 1 これはOKです。 2) Using your rule from part 1) above or otherwise how many matches would there be in pattern number 15? 答え） 76 これもOKです。 3) On the grid drawn below, sketch a graph showing the relationship between the pattern number and number of matches require, up to pattern number 12. 答えは添付出来ませんでしたがこれもOKです。 4) A group of students in Emily's class are going to create all the designs up to design 'n' . Give an expression involving n for the total (T) number of matches they will need. 答え） T(n) = 2.5 n ^2 + 3.5 n これがさっぱりわかりません。 2.5 や 3.5 や 2乗といった数字がどこから（どうして）出てくるのかさっぱりわかりません。 考え方を教えて頂けますか？

要するに6,11,16,21.....という数列の和を出しなさいと言っているわけです。 つまり1)のM = 5 n + 1を1からnまで合計すればよい。数学では等差数列の和というものです。 これは最初(6)と最後(5n+1)を足して２で割る、つまり平均Aを出してそれがn個あると考えるといいでしょう。 A=(6+5n+1)/2=2.5n+3.5 T=A×n=2.5n^2+3.5n

こんにちは。 現在、大学生で英語を専門とする学部に所属しています。 patternを日本語で表す時、軸となる考え方としては何が適切なのでしょうか？ 英英辞書で調べたところ、 1. a repeated decorative design: an arrangement or sequence regularly found in comparable objects or evens. 2. a regular form or sequence discernible in the way in which something happens or is done: a change in working patterns 3. a model or design used as a guide in needlework and other crafts. a set of instructions to be followed in making a sewn or knitted item a model from which a mould is made for a casting a sample of cloth for others to follow 4. an example of cloth others to follow と書かれています。 これを日本語にあてはめれば、 おそらく「型」、「様式」、「模様」もしくは単に「パターン」が浮かんでくるのですが、英語活用辞書で調べてみると、上記のような訳では不十分でした。 例えば、「according to pattern」だと「見本通りに」とありました。 さらに、大阪大学の赤本（2010年）の解答には、「complex patterns」で「複雑な世の中のしくみ」とありました。（おそらくこれは、文脈を読み取ってのものだと考えます。） 実際、patternは何を軸として、「型」や「様式」、「見本」といった訳を考えることができるのでしょうか？ 英英辞書に載っていることが答えだと思うのですが、まだまだ僕の英語力不足でいまいち、書かれていることが理解できません。 もし、英語に詳しい方がこの質問を見てくだされば、お答え願います。

For good luck, everyone eats the number of beans which ________ to his or her age. 豆まきの説明をしてる文章です。 matches では間違いで、corresponds が正解でした。 matches も corresponds も 同じような意味なのに、どうしてmatches では駄目なのでしょうか。 よろしくお願いいたします。
