代名詞についての質問です
次の文でなぜmeではなく、Ｉなのでしょうか？This is a story of my mother and Ｉ.どなたか教えて下さい。

これはネイティブ（子供ですが）だからこそ間違える間違いです。 日本人とかなら、主格目的格というのを習うと、ここで目的格とすぐわかります。 でも、ネイティブは You and I are friends. のような英語をもとに、 特に you は主格も目的格も同じで、you and I でセットと思ってしまう。 だから、英語圏の文法書などには A and B で and B を取り除いて格を考えよ などということが書かれています。 日本人の文法書にはそんなことはまず書いてなく、 普通に of の後なら目的格で、of us だろうが、of you and me だろうが 同じです。 逆に Me and you are friends. のような 順序も逆で、格を無視したような英語も平気で使うのです。 こんな英語、日本人ではあり得ませんが、ネイティブの子供は使うのです。

My mother and I work together. My mother and I eat together. My mother and I go shopping together. My mother and I like tennis. My mother and I often play tennis with each other. . . . などというお話なら、 a story of my mother and meではなく a story of my mother and I ですよね。 ここまで徹底してMy mother and I . . . というお話ではなくても、その感触を持っていれば、My mother and Iというタイトルがふさわしいでしょう。 このThis is a story of my mother and Ｉ.のmy mother and Iというのは、タイトルに近い意味だと考えれば、納得ですね。 以上、ご参考になればと思います。

The second story “Girl” was more interesting to me. The story is like family motto from her mother to girl. This story imply that girl’s mother really love her children with extravagance. I can find her mother’s love, worry and many more feeling to her daughter. I like this story because this story has more adorable feelings. I believe that “white elephant” is more difficult than “Girl”, because that story is mostly consisted of conversation between them, however, that conversation makes me confused. It is not clear for me. The girl was mad first time, but she easily come back to good mood the end of the story. I wanted to see the process how she came back to good mood. I believe that “Girl” is not a real story. I guess that this story is talking about future’s children. In my opinion, the girls’ mother wants to have a girl baby in her future, so she is talking about how her children want to grow up when she have a girl baby,

My mother has always wanted to take her three children on a cruise. My brother hates boats, and my sister and I are usually too busy between work and school. I’m the only one who lives with my mom, and we also work together. She just told me she booked a weeklong cruise for the two of us! I’m in college, and this trip is scheduled in the middle of my classes. My mom didn’t even run it by me before buying tickets, which is unusual for her. こんにちは。いつもお世話になっております。 参考書を読むと、代名詞のitはthe＋名詞と言い換えられ、thatは前にthe＋名詞として出てきたものと言い換えられると書いてあるのですが、そうすると、以下の文で合っているのでしょうか？ (1)I lost a pen. My uncle gave me it(=the pen). (2)I lost the pen. My uncle gave me that(=the pen). (3)The population of America is larger than that(=the population) of Japan. (1)はいいのですが、(2)の文のthetはitでもいいような、むしろitの方がいいような気がするのですが…。(3)はthatの方がいいなという気がします。そうすると(2)と(3)の違いは何なのでしょう。名詞の種類の違いでしょうか？ どなたかお願いいたします。
