Prehistoric societies and the use of honey

  • Prehistoric societies likely collected honey from wild bee colonies and used it to sweeten food and drink, much as people do today.
  • The phrase 'much as people do today' indicates that prehistoric societies used honey in a similar way to how people currently use honey to sweeten their food and drink. The word 'much' is not being used in a inverted or exceptional way, but rather to compare the actions of prehistoric societies to those of people today.
  • The use of honey by prehistoric societies to sweeten food and drink is similar to the way people currently use honey. The phrase 'much as people do today' simply emphasizes the similarity between the actions of prehistoric societies and modern people.

1:Prehistoric societies likely collected honey from wild bee colonies and used it to sweeten food and drink, much as people do today. 質問:much as people do todayここがわかりません。 2:This property enables sugars to prevent infection when applied to wounds becase the fluids bacteria need to surbive are sucked away.

> Prehistoric societies likely collected honey from wild bee colonies and used it to sweeten food and drink, much as people do today. much as people do today as people do today > This property enables sugars to prevent infection when applied to wounds because the fluids bacteria need to survive are sucked away. This property enables sugars to prevent infection 続いて when applied to wounds とあります。 そして、because the fluids bacteria need to survive are sucked away とあって、この部分に理由 (一番初めに述べられていた部分のことに対する理由) が述べられています。 → because the fluids (bacteria need to survive) are sucked away ( ) の中は、the fluids を修飾している部分ですが、関係代名詞が省略されているので、うっかり見落としてしまいがちな部分かもしれません。

★much as people do todayここがわかりません。 . . . used it to sweeten food and drink, as people do today. Frozen peas taste much the same as fresh ones. (ジーニアス英和大辞典) Much as I like you, I couldn't marry you. (オーレックス英和辞典) Her opinion is much like mine. (ジーニアス英和大辞典) ★This property enables sugars to prevent infection when applied to wounds because the fluids bacteria need to surbive are sucked away. the fluids / that bacteria need to survive / are . . .

1 much as people do todayのmuchはasを修飾する副詞だと思います。 2 This property enables sugars to prevent infection (when applied to wounds) becase the fluids (bacteria need to survive) are sucked away. because the fluids are sucked awayとbacteria need the fluids to surviveが関係代名詞で結びつけられています。

What were the ancient societies of Amazonia like before the first European sailors clambered ashore in the mid-16th century carrying strange new diseases and the seeds of war and conquest? For years, archaeologists have duelled over different views. Initially, most saw the vast Amazon Basin―which sprawls across Brazil, Peru, and five other countries in South America―as home to sparse bands of pre-Columbian hunters and gatherers who preserved the region's forests as wilderness. Then, archaeological discoveries in the 1990s revealed large villages and complex societies in eastern Amazonia, giving rise to the theory that prehistoric agriculturists had cleared and intensively managed forests across the Amazon Basin for thousands of years.Much rides on this assessment. If the Amazon, with its great diversity of plant and animal life today, was once extensively cleared and supported a large population of prehistoric people, that bodes well for the forest's powers of recovery. But if the region harbored only small, scattered populations, then today's ecosystem is truly virgin forest and perhaps very vulnerable to human activities.

Placing opposite characters in a fairy tale makes it easier for children to understand the difference between the two, which they could not do as easily were the figures true to life, with all the complexities that characterize real people. 1A.which they could not do as easily were the figures true to life and with all the complexities that characterize real people. 1B. which they could not do as easily, were the figures true to life and with all the complexities that characterize real people. 2. which they could not do as easily were the figures true to life, with all the complexities that characterize real people. 3. which they could not do as easily were the figures true to life with all the complexities that characterize real people.

比較級have a little more confidence than... 1)When I was young, high school and college students seemed to have a little confidence than young people today. It was not unusual for them no to do [for them to avoid doing] as other people did, and (to prefer) to do what most others didn't. They ..refused to do what most (other) people did, and (They refused to)do what most people didn't と並列していると考えると、and do what most people didn't は、「たいていの人がしなかったことをするのを拒否した」となってしまうと思うのですが。
