since = ある起点からずっと継続して今にいたっているーーことを表します。 （ちょっと応用的に申しますと、ある起点から発しているだけであれば、現在完了でfromを使うこともできます。） for = ある一定期間を表します。 したがって、sinceの後には「点」を表すことばが来ます。since seven o'clock this morningとかsince March, 2011とか。 forの後は「線」を表すことばが来ます。for five days, for one hundred yearsとか。 以上の説明が一番分りやすいと私は思いますがいかがでしょうか。

for a couple of days となります。 past は過去の一時点ではなく「それ以降現在まで」を指しますので、現在完了とは相性のいい語です。

Ten years have passed since he died. という文が学習参考書では現在完了の継続用法の一つとして紹介されています。一体、何が継続しているのかよくわかりません。sinceが「過去のある時点からずっと」という意味で使われるのが普通なので、過去から現在に至る期間を表していることはわかるのですが。時間が経過する状況が継続しているということなのでしょうか。 例えば、We have known each other since childhood. においては、知り合いである状態が継続しているのだと分かるのですが。よろしくお願いします。

(この前に会ってから2年前になるよね？) 上記の英文についてなのですが、前半の文にhave(ここではhas)が使われていないのに付加疑問「hasn't it?」が使われているのはどういうことでしょうか？ It's been two years since we last met 自体で現在完了形的な意味ということでしょうか？またItは過去のある時点を指していて、is beenは受動態。直訳すると「この前会ってから、ある過去の時点は2年過ぎ去られたよね？」と私は解釈したのですが合っているでしょうか？

過去形と現在完了形の違いを教えて下さい。 例えば「今年の夏はたくさん雨が降った」という文を英訳すると、「We have had much rain this summer.」となるらしいのですが、なぜ過去形ではないのでしょうか？haveを抜かしてしまうとどのようにおかしくなってしまうのですか？また、「彼は私がここに座ってからコーヒーを３杯飲んだ」は「He has drunk three cups of coffee since I sat here.」になります。なぜ彼の部分は現在完了で私の部分は過去形なのでしょうか？ 長くなって申し訳ありませんが、よろしくお願いします。
