no more ＋動詞の原形？

質問

In any society where people frequently more from one place to another, friendships can be close and strong fro a while and then disappear when the individuals move away from each other. Neither side feels especially slighted when this occurs. Both individuals may write to each other for a year or two , then no more.

その文で文章はすべてです。 no moreのところですが、省略があるのは明らかですが、no more yearsとかとはならないのですか？「no はmore yearsを否定して、それ以上（の年数）にはならない」というような解釈がなぜ間違いなのかご説明願えますか？Both individuals may write to each other for a year or two . then no more years.やっぱり変ですか？（主語は）一、二年は手紙をお互い出し続けるかもしれないが、それから　それ以上の年数にはならない」？？

解説には、no moreの箇所に関して、
"no more の前後に省略がある。決め手は副詞のthen。これも前のthen と同じ働きをしていることは、for a year or twoが第一文の for a whileとほぼ同意であることからわかる。すると、thenを境に反意語があることがわかる。thenの前には　may write to each otherという肯定の内容が書かれており、thenの後ろの no more が否定を含むことから、may no more write to each other　とすれば前後が反意語の関係になるとわかる。”

そこでいままで no more ...thanや、 no longer more than...　や more 形容詞（副詞) thanはみたことがありますが、 本文では　なぜ then no more ( write to each other )と、writeと動詞が来ているのですか？

thenは副詞です。Both individuals may ....と　then no moreの　間に等位接続詞、but などがなくてもいいのでしょうか？ both individualsはなんと訳しますか？
全訳などは書かなくて大丈夫です。

1 a year or two,then no more years については　years の省略なら　then ではなく　or/and などの接続詞を使うと思います。a year or two ,and no more 　 数字とmore を同時に使う場合は通常は　or でつなぎますね。数字 or more の形。

2 ここの省略は　,then may write to each other no more=then may not write to each other any more で　no more =not any more(longer) の意味だと思われます。

3 then は副詞ですが順序を表すときは接続詞のように用いる場合があります。
She had a talk with me, then left the room.

4 both individuals は「両者」の意味です。

ご回答ありがとうございます。 そうですね、 no more years なら　等位接続詞があるべきだと思います。なんとなくですが、数字と more を使うと orでつなぐというのはそのような文があるのでわかります。解説にはそのくわしい理由はわかりませんが、then no more (write to each other)とあります。

省略せずに書くとこうなります。
then they may write to each other no more

「お互いに一年や二年くらいは手紙をやり取りするかも知れないが…」に続ますので、「それ以上はない」と断言するのではなく、「お互いにそれ以上は手紙をやり取りしないかも知れない」と、予想で止めておくのが自然な流れだと思うのですが、どうでしょうか？

both individuals は「両者」と訳します。ある場所から「去った人と残った人」を指しています。

then 「その後は…」は副詞ですが、接続詞とほぼ同じ働きをしています。この場合、品詞にはあまりこだわらなくていいのでは？

then というのがやはりキーワードと思います。前の方にも、
friendships can be close and strong fro a while and then disappear

という文章がありますが、then （friendships）disappear
と考えるとわかりやすいと思います。

同じように、
Both individuals may write to each other for a year or two , then （both individuals may）no more （write to each other） .
と考えるとわかりやすいのではないでしょうか。

最初の方もおっしゃっていましたが、no more　を副詞として考えるといいかもしれません。もしno more　がこない場合は、then の後にくるものとして、stop writing　というのも可能かもしれません。つまり書かないということを thenの後で言いたいということです。

both individuals　についてですが、individual が一個人、という意味ですが、both individuals　で、両方それぞれと訳すといいと思います。

ご回答ありがとうございます。both individualsですが、individual をよく「個人」というように訳しますが、both individualsは模範解答の和訳では「１、２年は手紙のやり取りが続くこともあるが、それでもその程度である。」というように書かれてあって、なんと訳すのだろうと考えていました。

ん～, むしろ「どうして no more year なのか」がわからん. 「互いに 1年か 2年は手紙を書くかもしれんけどそれっきりになっちゃう」としか解釈できないなぁ....

then は副詞だけどこの場合 after that の意味なので接続詞込み. no more も副詞ととれるのでそのあとに動詞が来ても全く問題なし.
