本の和訳がなくて困ってます！
今英語でShort Fiction という本を勉強してるのですが、お話の内容が分からなくて困っています。 Jack London の To Build a Fire, Edgar Allan Poe の The Cask of Amontillado, Grace Paley の A Conversation with My Father, Franz Kafka の A Country Doctor, Ambrose Bierce の An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Shirley Jackson の The Lottery, Honore De Balzac の A Passion in the Desert, Sarah Orne Jewett の A White Heron, Raymond Carver の Cathedral, Kate Chopin の The Story of an Hour, John Updike の A＆P の内容が分かる方がいらしたら教えて下さい！ ネットで和訳を検索しても出てこなくて。。。 宜しくお願い致します。

英語の勉強をしているのなら、英語版をそのまま読むのがよいでしょう。 英語だと分かり辛く、どうしても日本語にしたいのなら、自分で日本語訳版を作りましょう。 そもそも何のために英語の文章の勉強をされているのかは知りませんが、英語を勉強しているのであれば、辞書片手に自分で翻訳するのが筋だと思います。 理想的なのは、英語の文章でそのまま内容が理解できることでしょう。 私の前に回答されている方がおっしゃっていますが、もとはロシア語やフランス語やドイツ語の文章もあると思います。それを英訳しているものを日本語訳してしまうと、元々の文章の趣旨と違うものになってしまうかもしれませんね。 いずれにしても英語勉強しているのに、他人の日本語訳を手に入れるってのはどうかと。 困ったときは、翻訳を生業にしている方がいます。そういう人に翻訳料を払って翻訳してもらうのがよいでしょう。 何でも「タダ（無料）で手に入れよう」「苦労なく物事を解決できる」と思ってはいけませんよ。

もともと英語で書かれた文章ならともかく、バルザックやカフカなんてフランス語、ドイツ語で書かれたものの英訳なんてテキストに使うのはおかしいですね。別のテキストを使ったらどうですか。 ジャック・ロンドン、ポー、バルザックやカフカだったら和訳の全集が出ていますので、そこにあることは確かです。

A good example was the erection by M.Tullius, a leading magistrate of the last decades of the first century BC, of a temple dedicated to Fortuna Augusta, one of various cults which grew up around the emperor and his tutelary spirits. Tullius had received honours from the emperor, and the building of the temple was a statement of his loyalty.

And each of us, to a greater or lesser degree, is "The System". The System is supposed to protect us, but sometimes it take on a life of its own, and then it begins to kill us and cause us to kill others-coldly, efficiently, systematically.
