お世話になります。 以下の文について質問させてください。 The recent sluggish economy has put even more of a pull on the rising unemployment rate. この文は「最近の低調な経済が、上昇する失業率をさらに押し上げている。」と訳すようです。 しかし文構造が分からず、このように訳せないので、ご指導いただけないでしょうか。 ○ 主語：The recent sluggish economy→最近の低調な経済 × 動詞：has put（このputが分かりません。putに訳が多すぎるので、このputが何を指しているか分からないためです。） △ hasu put に続く「even more」ですが、これは、動詞の後にくる副詞句という認識で良いでしょうか？ × of a pull：これは「引っ張る」なので、「押し上げる」という部分に相当するかと思いますが、明らかに動詞ではないですよね？ has putと何か関係しているのでしょうか？ ○ on the rising unemployment rate：「上昇する失業率を」という部分に相当することは分かります。 ただ、本文を分けて考えたときに、×と△で示した部分が分からず、この英文が訳通りになることに納得できません。 意訳で感覚的になら分かるのですが、文法的に納得したいです。 分かる方いらっしゃいましたら、ご指導ください。 よろしくお願いします。

The recent sluggish economy has put even more of a pull . おっしゃるように the recent sluggish economy が主語 （最近の低調な経済が） そして has put が動詞 （ここではおそらく、加える、という意味） a pull が目的語＊つまり名詞 （引き上げを） つづいて even （更によりいっそうの） more of a 名詞 「よりいっそうの～」 は、どちらも 後ろの名詞 pull を修飾する形容詞です。 →よりいっそうの更なる引き上げ 最後の on the rising unemployment rate は 文全体、もしくは動詞 put を修飾する副詞句で →上昇する失業率に 全部くっつけると 「最近の低調な経済が、上昇する失業率に、 よりいっそう更なる引き上げを、加えている。」 これを分かりやすい日本語にすると、 質問者さまが書いていらっしゃった訳になるかと。 こんな感じの説明でいかがでしょうか？

> The recent sluggish economy has put even more of a pull on the rising unemployment rate. この文で注目すべきは ... has put even more of a pull on ... という部分でしょう。 has put が動詞なら、その目的語に当るのが even more of a pull です。 ここの more は代名詞。more of ... で 「より多くの・・・、よりいっそうの・・・」 という意味です。 pull は 「引っ張る力」 なので more of a pull は 「より強く引っ張る」 みたいに予想できます。 even は強調。「それでなくても・・・なのに」 というニュアンス。 何を 「引っ張る」 のかが、on の後ろの名詞で示されます。 それは the rising unemployment rate です。すなわち 「上昇しつつある失業率」 です。 「それでなくても上昇しつつある失業率をもっと引っ張り上げる」 と訳すと、余りに直訳なので、「さらに押し上げている」 というふうにスマートに訳にされたのでしょう。

英文法の質問です。 質問1 the unemployment rate has risen three quarters in a row. この文のthree quartersは副詞(句)と考えてよいでしょうか。last nightとかone dayも副詞句として使われることが多いですが、これと同じタイプのものでしょうか。 質問2 a great many crops of much the same kindというフレーズのmuch the same kindの語順についてです。 the much same kindではないのでしょうか。a very interesting bookの例からわかるように、副詞のmuchの位置は形容詞のsameの前だと思いますが、本のミスということはないと思います。具体的な例文を上げながら、教えてください。 よろしくお願いします。
