Going to a foreign country, being surrounded by unknown people, and trying to live one's daily existence without understanding the foreign customs is not as easy as some people think.

People in New Zealand are trying protect, make, and use nature on their islands. …

- in one's head と in one's mind について教えてください。
A: Say... B: Hmm? A: Don't you think that we ought to start sharing the driving responsibilities? B: Why? Your car. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on in her head. A: I don't know. B: Mm. A: ...but I sure like where her legs are. B: Oh, come on, A, what's the matter with you? Here I am trying to understand the core, the complexity of her personality. And all you can talk about are legs? Come on. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on in her head. in one's mindと、 in one's headとの違いがよくわかりません。 辞書で調べたところ <mind> your thoughts or your ability to think, feel, and imagine things <head> your mind or mental ability headはこの場面ではmantal abilityの意味ではないので、 結局、in her mindでもin her headでも、ここでは同じ意味ということでしょうか?

- lose one’s shirt
Lyons: Not a few people have lost their shirts when… Lyons: I’ve heard all sorts of horror stories about people losing their shirt because “lose one's shirt”は、テキストのWORD WATCHでも解説がありますが、「無一文になる」すなわち「すってんてんになる」ということですが、両方を比べると「シャツ」が複数形 “shirts”と単数形 “shirt”になっています。 lose one's shirt(英辞郎 on the WEB) 無一文になる ・His company went bankrupt and he lost his shirt. He lost his shirt in the stock market crash. Lyons: That sounds like quite a major undertaking. I wish you guys the best of luck. Everyone knows how risky and volatile the restaurant business is. Not a few people have lost their shirts when trying to make a go of it in that extremely competitive field, @2019年5月 L4(1) Nissen: Yes, robocall fraudsters are becoming sneakier and slicker. I’ve heard all sorts of horror stories about people losing their shirt because they’ve been conned that way.

- access one's value
Ueda: Most people don't want to sit in a meeting where they're not going to add value. Some people may only need to attend a part of one, or it might make better sense to access their value by scheduling a private meeting.@ 2017年5月L3(5) 「あるいは、個々の打ち合わせを設定して実りあるものを引き出すほうが賢明な場合があるでしょう。」

It was one thing not to know one's longitude while travelling on land; not being able to calculate longitude at sea meant that navigators were sailing without knowing how far east or west they were from land. A is one thing; B is another.

- one or the otherは熟語?
one or the otherと入っている文章の意味がどうしてもつかめません。 The melting pot metaphor became very common in the late 18th century, in the late 1700’s in the United States, and is still used today. It became especially popular in the 1970’s when the United States, having changed its immigration policy in the mid 1960’s, started to receive, again, a very large number of immigrants. The United States always had immigrants up to the early 20th century, but the immigration laws changed and for a period of, oh, about 40 years, there weren’t as many immigrants coming to the United States as there were in the late 19th century, early 20th century. Now, that situation changed again in the 60’s and by the 1970’s, we were getting more and more immigrants, immigrants not just from Europe where traditionally immigrants had come from, but also from Asia, from Africa, from Latin America. There was a movement in the United States, especially among some of the newer immigrants, to value the differences that people brought with them. This idea became known as “multiculturalism.” “Multi” means many. And the “multiculturalism” idea said people don’t have to change when they come to this country. There doesn’t have to be a melting pot. They can keep some of their original ideas and traditions. So, there are basically these two ideas about what should happen to immigrants, not just in the United States, but, of course, in any country. Those who advocated or said we should adopt a multicultural approach used a different metaphor, the metaphor of a mosaic. A “mosaic” (mosaic) is a kind of artwork that’s created by putting very small pieces of tile, ceramic or stone, possibly glass of different colors and when you look at it from a distance, it has a certain image. Other people use the metaphor of a salad bowl, where you had different elements together, but they all stayed separate in some way, they didn’t melt together, which is the correct metaphor. Well, that’s a continuing debate in the United States. Most people, I think, recognize that different cultures bring different gifts in their own traditions to the United States. People also recognize that in order to live as one country, we all have to share some ideas, some common vision. And exactly what the correct mix of those two are, is a constant topic of not only conversation among Americans, but also of policy, of what our government should do to encourage one or the other vision of the U.S. という以上の文章の最後の〝our government should do to encourage one or the other vision of the U.S.〟の one or the other というのは、 「どっちがどっちか 」「どれか一方[ひとつ] 」という熟語なのか、それとも to encourageの目的語の one と同じく to encourage の目的語のthe other vision of the U.S と、単にorでつながっているのか、 いずれにしろ最後の文章の意味がわかりません。

- at one time or anotherの訳語
one American psychologist estimates that the average person tells as many as 200 lies a day, including "little white lies" and excuses such as: "I couldn't finish my homework because the electricity went off in our house." Almost everyone tells a lie at one time or another without feeling that he or she has done something terribly wrong. May people lie without hesitation because they feel that there is good reason for it. のat one time or anotherの訳語ですが、「一度ならず」でいいのでしょうか?
