入るのはcan'tだと思います。まず，次のいくつかの例を見てください（いずれもネイティブの書いた英文から検索したものです）。 [1] ... particular jellyfish in the Chesapeake Bay don't sting so badly that a person will die. [2] ... it was not so loose that a man could slip free of them. [3] I'm not so sure that I can do that. [4] ... as long as you don't feel so guilty that you abandon it entirely. [5] ..., left Hale Irwin tired -- although not so tired that he couldn't win the Buick Open Sunday. [6] I'm not so stunned that I won't be able to do my job properly. 例えば[1]でいえば，「クラゲは，<人が死ぬほどひどく刺す>わけではない」というふうに，notは<so ～ that ...>の全体を否定しています。[2]では「<人が滑り落ちるほどゆるい>わけではない」，[6]では「<仕事がちゃんとできないほど動転している>わけではない」となります。 これを問題の文に当てはめれば，「<渡れないほど広い>わけではない」とすればよいわけですから， The river is not <so wide that we can't get across it>. となるはずです。考え方としては，artist0さんの 『その川は「それほど」幅広ではない、「それほど」とはどれくらいかというと 渡れ（る or ない）ほど』 が正しく，soは後ろのthatの内容を受けると考えるべきでしょう（仮主語のitが後ろのthatを受けるのと同様に）。

He is old enough to drive a car. という文は両方とも正しいと思います。 しかし、so that に書き換えると、 He is so old that he can't drive a car. ×He is so old that he can drive a car. となって、一番下は成立しません。 He is too 形容詞 to 不定詞. He is 形容詞 enough to 不定詞. のように、同じ形容詞、不定詞を使って、しかも、so ～ that に書き換えることができる例文があったら、教えてください。よろしくお願いいたいたします。

1.not too ---to--と 2.too---not to--の訳し方で いつも混乱しています。 1.He is not too old to work. 2.The boy is too bright not to be able to do arithmetic. １は「それほど年をとっていないので働ける」 ２は「とても頭が良いので計算ができる。」 これで合っていますか？ 今後 忘れないようにするには どう理解したらよいでしょうか。 notの場所とtoo--to--の関係など 文法的に解説していただけませんか。 よろしくお願いします。

以下の３つの英文についてお尋ねします。 1) This math question is too difficult to solve. 2) This math question is too difficult for me (またはus) to solve. 3) This math question is too difficult to be solved. 上の1) は一般によく見かける形ですが、よく考えますとsolveの意味上の主語が曖昧とも言えます。2)はsolveの意味上の主語をfor～を用いて明確にした形ですが、常に「for+人」は必要なのだろうかとも思います。3)は文の主語と意味上の主語を一致させた形（=This math question is so difficult that it cannot be solved.「この数学の問題はとても難しいのでそれは解かれ得ない。」)となりますが、一般にこうした形はあまり見かけません。通常１）の形で通用するように思いますが、２）や３）の形も含めてどれが文法的に妥当もしくは一般的に通用する言い方となるのでしょうか。どなたかご存じの方がおられましたら宜しくご教示の程お願い申し上げます。
