この英文はどこかでみたことがあると思えば、受験英語の「基礎英文・問題精講」にある問題みたいですね。三年ぐらい前に使ってました。いまだに覚えているとは・・・・。確認のため押入れから引き出し調べてみました。 本には、あなたが言っているように「～が属する」とあります。 部分訳：community to which we belong「自分が属している社会」とありました。

(^^;?（所属する、で良いのでは？） もし、住んでいるに訳すべきならば、the community to which we belong. ではなく、the community in which we belong. か the community in which we live とするはずだと思うのです。 もし住んでいるだけで、その団体（ the body ）に所属していなければ、所属していない団体から切り離すことは可能になります。 したがって、belong to は the body に係り、その地域社会の団体に所属するのであって、その団体から切り離せないのです。つまり所属するとはその集団に所有されるのであって、文脈によっては住むにしてもよろしいが、理解のためには何としても、所属でなくてはならないんじゃないでしょうか？

belongは属する、などですが、ここの場合は「住んでいる」でよいのでは？

Why do we allow ourselves to love when we know for a fact that, that soul will eventually leave us? What more can I ask of myself. 以前、訳のお願いをしたのですが、納得できないところがあって、解説をお願いします。上の文では、Why we allow ourselves to love を 我々は どうして愛し合えるのだろうか と訳していたんですが、愛し合えるがよくわかりません。allow の訳し方なのでしょうか。次の文では、 自分にもっと求めるどんなことがあるのだろうか。 と訳していたんですがmoreの位置がここになるのがよくわかりません。また、ask of につてなんですが、of 働きが納得いきません。～にもとめる は ask of なんですか。解説をしてやろうという方がいらっしゃいましたら、お願いします。
