estimate は、普通、「見積もり」という意味で使います。 穀物生産の見積もりなのです。または推定量とか。「評価」という訳語もあります。予測というので、変な感じがするのです。 ＞Out first estimate of US corn production is 9660 bushels. ＞Our initial Crop cast estimate for Canadian barley production is .. 合衆国のとうもろこし生産についての我々の最初の（当初の）見積もりは、９６６０ブッシェルである。 カナダ大麦（多分、バーリー）生産に対する我々の初期作物キャスト見積もりは…… こういう風に訳すのです。見積もりは、段々状況と共に、変わって来るのです。修正されてくるのです。気候や気象などで。あくまで例文範囲内での読みとりでは。

穀物相場に関する訳で、わからないことがあります。 ●"early-planted fields"とは、「早めに作付けされた畑」というのでいいでしょうか？ ●"Showers are needed there for the crop that is heading"という文があるのですが、"heading"とはどんな作業を指すのでしょうか？ ●「this past week」は先週、「later this week」は今週後半でいいですか？ ●"Our grain production estimate is initially..""Our first estimate of U.S. corn production is ..""Our initial estimate is..." それぞれの文で使われている、initially, first, initial という語は、すべて「当初の予測は」という訳でいいのでしょうか？（初めの予測の話をしている？？） ●the southwestern belt というのは「東南地域」の訳でいいでしょうか？ ●Dryness is developing again and some crop stress is occurring as a result. これは「乾燥天候が広がった結果、いくつかの作物にストレスがかかっている」 という訳でいいのでしょうか？ アドバイス、よろしくお願いいたします。

どなたかこの二つの文の解説をお願いいたいます。 穀物についてのものなのですが、 ・These cereals are genetically so similar that for all intents and purpose they can be considered a single genetic system. 訳は手元にあって、そこには 「これらの穀類は遺伝子が非常に似ているので、ほとんど一つの遺伝系と見なすことができる。」 とあります。 そこで、 similar の後の that はどういう役割なんでしょうか？ それとfor all intents and purpose とは、「事実上、どう見ても」という意味だと調べたんですが、訳の「ほとんど」とはどこを訳したのでしょうか？ ・While wheat is the most widely cultivated plant worldwide, slightly ahead of corn and rice, barley has to a somewhat lesser extent also traditionally been a very important agricultural crop. この訳は、 「小麦は、とうもろこしや米にわずかにまさって、世界中でもっとも広く栽培されている 穀物であるが、大麦も、小麦ほどではないにせよ、昔から非常に重要な農作物であり続けてきた。」 となっています。 ここで分からないのが、barley has to a somewhat～の文です。 省略すると barley has been a very important agricultural crop となるので理解できるのですが、 to a somewhat lesser extent also traditionally が理解できません。 なぜ to a なのか、どうして has の後にくるのか・・・ 混乱します； よろしくお願いいたします・・・。

今回はじめて穀物相場の翻訳をしていて、辞書を引いてもわからない語がありました。 ●「・・・grain production estimate is 859.5 MMT, down 500 TMT from last week.」 この場合のMMTは"Million Metric Tons" TMT は"Thousand Metric Tons" でよいのでしょうか？ アメリカで使われている単位を日本語に訳すときには、これは 「・・穀物の生産高は先週より５０万トン下回る８５９.５百万トンの予想である」 というような訳でよいのでしょうか？ （数字の単位も含め） ●あと、日付の横についている「JST」とは「Japan Standard Time」略ですよね？ もしも「2002/03/25(JST)」とあったときは、どのように訳したらいいのでしょうか？ 日本に向けた情報であるなら、これは全く訳す必要はないのですか？ ●「01/02 production」もしくは「02/03 production」というように書いてあるものは、「２００１/２００２年度生産高」「２００２/２００３年度生産高」という意味でしょうか？ でも、今は２００２年度なのに、２００３年度のestimateの話をしているわけですか？ なにせ初めてなのでさっぱりわかりません。 ご存知の方、お力を貸してください。 宜しくお願いいたします。

Through Terco Producciones, which was responsible for Honduran casting on 『BBBB』, Mr. samuel attended an open casting call and within weeks found himself in front of the cameras, making his feature debut. starfloraさん、あらためて今日はお世話になりました。 2日までぜんぜん知らなかった「穀物相場」ですが、今日朝５時からずっととりかかって、付け焼刃程度のものではあるものの、うっすらとわかってきたことがいろいろとありました。 翻訳のことについてもそうです。 今までは「翻訳の学習」でした。 でも今日のは一応「トライアル」で、人に見せるものを作成するのとは ぜんぜん違うなと思いました。 やはり仕事にしないと伸びないなぁというのが実感です。 翻訳は自分に向いていないと諦めていましたが、印象がかわりました。 結果はどうかまだわかりませんが、今日は英語を使って何かできたことで とても充実感を感じています。 翻訳は英語だけでなく、専門分野と日本語の勝負ですね。 これからも努力を怠らないように、がんばりたいと思います。 今日は本当にありがとうございました。 これからも宜しくお願いいたします。
