ジーニアス英和辞典（大修館書店）で give をひくと、 Music gives most people pleasure.（音楽はたいていの人に喜びを与える） Does your back give you pain?（背中が痛みますか） という例文が載っています。 ところで、この文にある consult は「相談する」ではなく「本などを調べる」の意味ですから、これは間違いではないです。

giveは物を主語にすることが出来ます。 This instruction gives you some detail. とか、例文のように My car always gives me a trouble. 上の文はhave ではなく has であるべきですね。 あと、owner's manualって読む物だと思うんですが。 私なら If your new car ever gives you a trouble, please read the owner's manual before calling your car dealer. とします。
