Thin- film Lubrication A condition of lubrication in which the film thickness of the lubricant is such that the friction and wear between the surfaces is determined by the properties of the surfaces as well as the viscosity of the lubricant. Boundary lubrication, Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication is better-defined terms, which should be used where possible. Under thin-film conditions the coefficient of friction is often 10 times to 100 times greater than under thick film conditions.

言い換えると、本当は、 「Thin- film Lubrication is a condition of lubrication in which the film thickness ・・・・」 を訳さなければならないのです。

A condition of lubrication in which で、どのような潤滑状態かというのがin which以下に説明されていて、“the film thickness of the lubricant が such that以下のようなものである”と説明されています。 「the friction and wear between the surfaces が the properties of the surfaces as well as the viscosity of the lubricant によって決まってくるような the film thickness of the lubricant である潤滑の状態」と直訳しておいた方がいいと思います。 which should be used where possible be usedは受動態(passive)ですが、これは言い換えるとone should use it (the term) where possibleです。

  • The degree of decrease in friction

In any mechanical devices, it is impossible to eliminate friction. Nevertheless, in many respects, the working efficiency of the mechine depends on the degree to which the friction of the parts (are) lessened. 質問は; ”その部品の摩擦の減少度合いに”にあたる英文を the degree to which the friction of the parts is lessened. 私は,自分の英作では the degree of decrease in friction of the parts. Googleで"the degree of decrease in"と検索すると,結構ヒットしますが,続けて,"the degree of decrease in friction"とすると,まったくヒットしなくなります。 また著者の表現”the degree to which the--”ではなく,”the degree of --”に書き換えるにはどうすれば良いでしょうか。

Check the lubricant. Various kinds of impurities can be usually felt by rubbing a little of it between the fingers. A thin layer may be spread on the back of the hand for inspection against the light. A thin layer may be spread”と訳されています。 For the examination of the lubricant agent, several kinds of impurities normally can be felt by rubbing a small amount of it by the fingers. When it is inspected by holding up it to the light, it can be spread on the back of the hand. また”For the examination of the lubricant agent” とofの前後の名詞両方にtheを付けました。
