英語の問題
比較の単元の問題なんですけど、わかったら教えてください、お願いします。 できれば訳と間違っている理由も・・・ 次の英文で間違っている個所がそれぞれ一つある、その部分を指摘し正しい 形に直せ。 １．Because there are less members present tonight than there were last night,we must wait until the next meeting to vote. ２．Although both of them are trying to get the scholarship ,she has the highest grades. ３．Absolute zero is the theoretical temperature at which the atoms and molecules of a substance have the less possible energy. ４．In spite of his age,his behavior at the party was as childish as a young kid. ５．Even when I was a small child,I couldn't help thinking that classical music is superior than other types of music.

な～んか、あんまり自信ないんですけど… こういうのって、どれも読んでいると正しそうに見える ものですよね～。 (^_^;) ま、とりあえずやってみましょう。 １．「昨夜よりも出席者が少ないので、投票は次回の集 まりのときにしなくてはならない」 thanの後ろの「there were」をはずすんでしょうか。 比較しているのは、「present」と「last night」です から。 ２．「二人とも奨学金を狙っていたが、彼女の方が成績 が良かった」 比較の対象は二人ですから、「highest」を「higher」 と比較級にしましょう。「the」はそのままつけておい てくださいね。 ３．「絶対０度は、理論的に原子や、物質の分子が最も エネルギーを持ち得ない温度である」 「less」を「least」にすればいいのかな… ４．「彼は年齢の割に、幼い子供のように子供っぽい」 「as ～ as」のうしろに「that of」を補ってやりましょ う。もちろん「that」=「behavior」です。 ５．「私は子供のときでさえ、クラシックは他のジャン ルの音楽に勝ると思わないではいられなかった」 「superior」という単語は、確かにラテン語の比較級経 由で生まれたものですが、英語では比較級ではありませ ん。「than」を「to」に代えてやりましょう。 う～ん、何か勘違いしている問題もありそうな気が… 間違えていたら、ごめんなさいです。 だれかフォローしてくださ～い！ (^o^)丿

borisサンへ ５の文は誤文ではありません。 このisをwasの書き込みミスではないことを前提として、なぜここで 「時制の一致」が生じないか述べたいと思います。 学校文法では、時制の一致の例外で「過去形」にならない場合として １現在の習慣、２永久不変の事実、 の２つを教わりますが、正確には 「話し手がthat以下の内容を文の発話時において真実とみなしかつそのことを聞き手に 伝える意思があるときは、主節の動詞が「過去形」でも「現在形」になる （この「現在形」はさきの１や２の時制の一致の例外の一種の拡大解釈ですが「絶対時制」と呼ぶこともあります）。 特に話し手にその意思がなければ、時制の一致が適応されてしまう（これを「惰性の法則」という人もいる） 」 5の文の話し手は 「クラシック音楽は他のジャンルの音楽より優れている」という内容 を話し手が、文の発話時＝「大人になった今」＝「『子供のころ～思わないわけには行かなかったと』 いう文を述べた時点」でも真実であると考えているので、「現在形」で述べていることが予想されます。
「正解」＝２－５については 「Nakaサンの解答が正しい解答」ですという意味です。

補足です。 ５．の問題、that以下の時制が合っていません。 that classical music was superior to ～ が正しいと思います。（でもそうすると、間違いが2箇所になってしまうけれど・・・。設問が悪いんじゃない？）

１これらは皆比較級の問題であることが前提になっているのがヒント。 「直す」のは比較級のところの限られます（＞０＜） 訂正問題に「省略する」というパターンは普通ありません。 memberは可算名詞なのでlessではなくfewerです。 後は全て正解。

安河内哲也氏の問題集の文です。 There was an audience of no less than 4,000 at the concert yesterday. There was an audience of 40 people at most his lecture. audienceは単数扱いにも複数扱いにもなる集合名詞ですが、上記の文の場合はThere was ではなくThere wereになるのではないのですか？？ 4000 や 40人は複数なので単純にwas ではなく were ではないかと思うのですが・・・・ 私の詰めが甘いのかとも思います。 よろしくお願いします。
