NO5に対する「お礼」について 〈the の「他にもうないとわかるもの」という性質からすると、the + 名詞で「～というもの」という総称のthe というのは正反対の性質ですね〉 ついでですので、なぜ正反対になるのか説明します 「特定」「総称」のtheは一見逆のことを言っているようですが「総称」もやはり 「特定」の用法から派生したものです。 １The monkey is his pet.「（目の前の檻にいるサルを指差して）このサルは彼のペットだ」これは数多くあるサルのうちで、「目の前の檻の中サル」だけを特定している。 ２The monkey is clever animal「サルという動物は賢い」これは「総称」ですね。 ２は正確にはthe monkey＝the（=このtheは特定を表す）animal which belongs to the kind “monkey” と言い換えられます。 他の動物の中で『さる』という特定の種類の動物だけを指します。｛馬、牛、兎、猫、犬、豚、鼠｝など数多くある動物の中で「猿」という種類の動物を特定しているわけです。当然話し手は他の動物「馬」「犬」にはない「猿」に対するイメージ、「賢い」「木登りがうまい」「木登りがうまい」などのイメージを考えることになります。「総称」とはいっても他の種類と比べて「特定」されています。

こんにちは＾＾ 僕は、この構文についてなんでもかんでもthe more, the moreとやってはいけないと教わりました。 たとえば、 The more information we have,the less uneasy we feel. この文ではthe more が使われてるわけですが、 これは元の文がWe have much information...とmuchが使われているのでその比較級であるmoreが文頭に来たと解釈できますね。 ということは、元の文にmanyやmuchが使われていたらmoreが使われる可能性があるということですよね。 しかし、次に記す文は、 元の文にmanyやmuchが出てこないはずなのにthe moreと使われています。これはなぜなのでしょうか？ The more used you are to using personal computers,... これは、パソコンに慣れればなれるほど・・・という意味ですよね。 この元の文を考えた場合、 You are used to using personal computers. となるはずですが、muchやmanyが入っていないのにthe moreと書かれています。 回答待ってます。

「～よりずっと・・・だ」という比較の文章で質問があります。 以下のような文を見つけました。 I was making a lot more money before, but even with a lower salary, I am much more happy here, because I live this city and the food and the people. ここでは'much more happy'となっています。本来はhappyの比較級はhappierですが、much happierでなくてmuch more happyのほうが正しい or よく使われるのでしょうか。
